There are so many questions we answer each day. Car rental is one question we get all the time. Today we will go over Car Rental Services including a brief guide so you can make the most of your vacation with a rental car. We highly recommend renting a car since it saves a lot of time and money. Choosing the right company has a lot to do your rental car experience.
The cost of a car rental will always depend on two important things, the company and the season. Most of the companies include in the rate the pick-up and drop off when both are schedule at the same place. When the delivery is at some place that is not the company´s office, and pick up and drop off are in different places there is an extra charge.
Rates are also defined by seasons, the difference can be as much as $10usd to $20usd. How long you rent the car can also effect the price. Fortunately, car rental companies offer discounts for larger rentals or for rentals that include a few vehicles.
Your car rental decision should be defined by the car insurance not the car. Here is some important information you should know, information that is not necessarily clear when you rent or book your car online.
There are only two types of car insurance and only one is mandatory. Basic insurance is mandatory by law and is also FREE! I bet you didn’t know. And is usually included (or should be) in the rate, at least the upfront rate. Basic insurance covers; Legal assistance, Medical payments, Property damage liability and some percentage for Collision (usually 10%).
Full cover insurance is NOT mandatory but we usually suggest it when is not included with your credit card benefits. This type of insurance covers the basic insurance services plus a full protection for collision and robbery. However, you can always decline this option. Some car rental companies inform that full cover insurance is mandatory when renting from them. We are not saying is not a good option, we highly suggest the full cover when is necessary and the company is clear from the beginning about the extra cost for it.
1.- Choose According Your Needs. There are 4 types of vehicles in general; Economic (i10 or similar), Medium size (Attitude or similar), Large (Patriot or similar) and Family size (Town and Country or similar). When choosing the type of car best for your vacation think about the amount of people, if there will be luggage, gas consumption and if you are traveling with kids.
2.-Search For The Best Options. You should be able to start planning a few weeks or a month in advance. Search on-line, check the Loco Gringo Forum for feedback and recommendations and ask family and friends if they have visited this area.
3.-Contact Your Vacation Representative. If you booked your accommodations locally (hotel, vacation rental service) they you can ask a local. People who live here always have suggestions, or even a friend who works at a rental car company. They likely also have pricing and details and the best part, interesting places to visit while using the car.
4.- Don´t Be Afraid To Request The Bottom Line Rate and What Is Included. On-line rates do not include insurance, that is why they look so inexpensive. It isnt until you press ‘book’ or even in some cases arrive to pick up the car that they break down some services so you might end up getting the rate with only Medical payments included but not the rest that basic insurance covers. Sometimes it only includes collision cost, therefore there are additional charges or extra fees for medical insurance and liability. This is why some misunderstandings occur when renting a car. Ask questions and make sure you know exactly what you are paying for and what insurance you are receiving.
Get the online quote and immediately contact the car rental company representative to clarify what other fees might be added to the final price. And if everything fails, don´t forget there is always the option to contact your private Concierge at [email protected] who will be more than happy to provide all the information you need and help you book your car as well.!
