We have always loved the idea of offering advices for customers who more than just search for new places, are eager to find new adventures. There is nothing we recommend more than local and cultural activities especially if they are represented by people who know and appreciate the Mexican culture. This time we had the opportunity to catch up with one of the greatest sailors in the area. Captain Quickie who represents Local Quickies, is basically family for the people living in the area. He knows the “what” and the “how” of sailing in Riviera Maya and the communities around.
The tours that Local Quickies offer have a common purpose, to discover incredible places you miss on your regular vacation. Fishing, Sailing, Zip lining, Snorkeling and any other activity that includes experience with local culture, they have it for sure. The signature tour of Local Quickies has a little bit of everything, it is by far one of the must while vacationing in the Riviera Maya.
Local Quickies signature tour starts at Puerto Aventuras marine where Captain Quickie and his team welcome you and explain the activities you will be doing during the trip. They drive you first to an amazing quiet area where you try different zip lines that cross a relaxing and beautiful lagoon. Zip lines here are not as scary as others in the area which makes the activity perfect for beginners and people afraid of heights. The canoeing at the lagoon is optional but highly recommended, the lagoon is full of water lilies on the surface and you can clearly see the gigantic stones under the water and the turtles peeking on the shore.
Once you have fallen in love with the lagoon and its tranquility, it is time to move on to a more extreme activity. The open cenote is just an amazing spot for snorkeling and swimming, with crystal clear water and full of marine life. The bravest ones can jump from the cliff that is about 5mts high, but the real treat here is the free pedicure that fish provide. 2 minutes of standing still in the water will be enough for you to be surrounded by little fish that will smoothly tickle your feet. These fish are the same used on the 5th Avenue for the famous Fish Pedicure, the only difference is that there is no extra charge for you and the fish remain free after they are done snacking.
Right after experiencing the fish pedicure it is time for lunch. The places they have selected to eat are simply the best, local restaurants that offer authentic delicious options. Cochinita pibil tacos is a local delicacy and one of the main options for travelers (and locals).
The best part is that Local Quickies activities can be tailored, you can decide what to add or what to take away. From shared to private trips Local Quickies make sure you spend an incredible day. You can access the contact information of Captain Quickie or contact your [email protected] and request all the details and rates for every Local Quickies packages.
By the way, if you want to actually listen to Captain Quickie giving great advices and spilling the beans on local “must”, you can listen to the recent podcast Loco Gringo had the pleasure of creating with him.
