Practicing Spanish During Your Holidays In Riviera Maya

Food tour

For the travelers who love Mexican culture, there is an exciting way to be as local as possible when vacationing in Riviera Maya. Sometimes zipping Margaritas and eating tacos it´s just not enough. And what a better way to be part of the local culture than to be able to communicate in the local language. We know sometimes one week of vacation is not long enough to learn an entire language. But there are tons of activities you can join, where you will definitely catch some Spanish. This way next time you visit the area, you will be able to take with you more than souvenirs. A few Spanish words that can be helpful on your exploring. Definitely a fun way of enjoying the Mexican Caribbean like a true local.

Private Classes

Spanish Playalingua

There are a few schools where you can learn Spanish. Harmon Hall is one of them but it is necessary for you to visit the school, which is located in Playa del Carmen on the 30th Avenue. There are other options in Playa del Carmen that offer private classes too. You can request a private teacher to come to your vacation property. Playalingua is the chool tht offers Spanish lessons for adults. And for your kids there is a different option. Babysitters in the area offer Spanish lessons at a low cost if requested in advance. Playakids can send a babysitter to your vacation home and teach your kids Spanish while babysitting them.

Workshops At Nearby Places

El Hongo

Workshops are another fun way to learn Spanish in the area. La Ceiba Park is one of our favorite places for workshops. The park is huge and there is always a family friendly activity going on. Kids can join puppet shows, handcraft workshops or movie nights. While the parents engage in conversations with locals. El Hongo restaurant has also an amazing way to get families involved. With workshops to recycle, theater evenings, storytelling and other activities like painting. The best part is that 90% of the visitors are locals. So you and your kids will have tons of opportunities to practice Spanish.

Family Activities That Improve Spanish

Food tours

Our top activities for travelers who want to practice the local language are always authentic and with Mexican guides. Food tours and Cooking classes are amazing activities where you can learn local traditions and costumes. Plus they represent the perfect option to learn Spanish as well. In Tulum our favorite is Linas Mexican Kitchen. For only $75.00usd per person you can learn how to prepare Mexican meals and practice your Mexican vocabulary. In Puerto Morelos there is also a great option with The Little Mexican Cooking School. Cooking classes are very dynamic, you can practice Spanish while you learn the name of ingredients in the original language.

Finally the food tours available in Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen (soon in Tulum as well) are something you should not miss. The groups are small so you get the chance to ask as many questions as you want. The local chef of Riviera Maya Food Tours will take you to unique places with authentic food. During the tour he will share a little history about Mexican meals and local places. But our favorite activity of the food tour is the tortilla making thought by a Mexican couple in their home. Definitely an epic way to learn about the culture of the area. For any of the activities mentioned above, your [email protected] can assist you with reservations.
