This is kind of a must-read for every traveler no matter what destination you are visiting soon. There are some things usually forgotten previous to your trip that are extremely important to start your holidays with the right foot. This check list will help you organize the important stuff and prioritize your needs to guarantee a fantastic vacation. The emotion and excitement is perfectly normal prior to your trip but with a minimum organization the stress will disappear. Grab a piece of paper, get a comfy seat and let´s plan you’re your perfect holiday.
There aren´t many documents you need for a Mexican vacation. The common papers requested by transit or police (for standard touristic procedures) are. A valid driver´s license no matter what country was issued at. A valid passport and a photocopy of it. An ID preferably with a picture of you on it. And credit cards for emergencies or rentals. Even if you are not renting a car is always good to have a driver´s license in case you feel like renting a golf cart or a scooter. Specially at the islands it is better to discover them in a golf cart or scooter for practical purposes. We recommend you to notify your credit card company that you are traveling to Mexico since you will need authorization for purchases outside your country. Credit cards are accepted in most of the restaurants in the area and also at local grocery stores. No need to exchange your money before you arrive. Riviera Maya is a touristic area and you will see money exchange places almost in every corner! Although we recommend you to exchange your money at local banks and to get cash (pesos) from the ATM´s attached to them.

There are many companies that protect you during holidays, we recommend Travel Guard as it has offered great rates for our repeat customers. It is very important that you have the documents that proof your reservation. Payment voucher or any other document that shows your vacation is paid. Each property has different driving instructions and if you are not familiar with Spanish we recommend you to request driving instructions or property address. This way any local will be able to help you locate your vacation home. If you are booked with LocoGringo, once you have completed your final payment you should get the voucher and driving directions. The check in instructions are equally important. Some properties don’t have caretaker or a concierge to check you in. In these cases the key should be inside of the property, but to get it you need to know the code to open the box where it is. An emergency contact in case you are arriving late and a notification on your arrival time (with enough time in advance) is also recommended.
The food options are endless and there is always a place to eat nearby, but if you have special dietary needs or you need pre-stocking service it is better to make arrangements in advance. Your Concierge should be able to arrange a private chef or cook for those days you want to stay in and enjoy of an authentic homemade meal. Grocery delivery or pre-stocking service is also possible as long as you place your order with enough time in advance. During high season is common to have local chefs and cooks easily booked. So we recommend you to make arrangements in advance to ensure there will be someone available for your dates.
To travel with kids it´s in a whole different level of stress but it can be incredibly relaxed if you have the correct information prior to your trip. Our suggestion is for you to keep emergency contacts handy (print out); doctor who can speak English, pharmacies nearby, grocery store, delivery service or even your concierge cell phone number. If you think you might need a babysitter we can provide you the contact information for a last minute service.
One of the many advantages of booking your holidays with LocoGringo, is the personalized service. Did you forget the name of the property you are staying at? You are not familiar with the road to get to the property? Are you arriving late? These are common issues and we make sure there is always someone you can contact in case of any last minute need.
