Adios Ileana! We are sad to see Il Pescadore go

We are sad for us but happy for Ileana, the restaurant owner of ‘Il Pescadore De Ileana’ who recently retired and moved back to Italy to take care of her mom. Ileana and her homemade Italian food have been a staple in Playa del Carmen for over 16 years. Located on the corner of 10th Ave and 24th street in Playa del Carmen, Ileana’s restaurant served thousands of visitors to the Riviera Maya. Her love of food, music, and a good glass of wine was contagious. We loved the warm welcome and hug we received every time we went for dinner.

Playa landmark in the Italian neighborhood

Ileana’s restaurant was in the Italian neighborhood of Playa del Carmen before there was such a definition. Using authentic Italian recipes and traditions, Ileana had the best homemade pasta, lasagna, and pesto! Her gnocchi was as gnocchi should be, thick and delicious with the right balance of potato. Her sauces were homemade using local ingredients. Her pasta melted in your mouth and for a few minutes you did feel like you were in an Italian home for dinner.

Her passion for music and dancing brought in some great mariachis, with Ileana singing and dancing while customers tapped their foot, clapped their hands and in some cases, danced alongside their hostess. Her staff were gracious, polite and behind the scenes as Ileana stole the show night after night.

Thank you Ileana for many years of great food, great times and wonderful memories. You were the most gracious hostess, are a wonderful woman, and tirelessly served up thousands of bowls of pasta to hunger visitors who loved the restaurant! Suerte en Italia and know that you will be missed!
