When you think about the perfect destination for family holidays, for sure it has to include some activities for the little and not so little ones. Picture yourself surrounded of many options where you and your kids can enjoy without even being apart. We are not talking about the very known tours that everyone takes, we are highlighting this time an activity that is both; entertaining and will give you a preview of Mexico´s culture.
Sayab is the name of the recently opened planetarium, located in Playa del Carmen. This is not just another place to visit but is actually an off the beaten path option that all the family members can enjoy and we have all the insight details to prove it!
For many of us learning new stuff can be tedious, especially during holidays, and when traveling with kids, the search for cool activities to entertain them, can be hard. But what if we could combine the culture of the country and mix it with fun and interesting activities like watching the starts from a telescope? Or perhaps playing with virtual reality and geeky tools? We have to admit this time the word Planetarium has taken a whole different meaning.
Since the moment you got in, the staff is prepared to make you feel interested. Want to discover more about cavern, planets or jaguars? They play documentaries every hour from Tuesday to Sunday and are extremely punctual so you have to arrive a few minutes early to purchase the tickets which are no more than 4usd per person. The reason why you will see more grown ups than actually kids, it´s because of their activities; workshops all day long, they include Robotics, Microscope world, Spider world, Geometry, Elastic balls and more. Hours are 1:00pm, 3:00pm, 4:00pm and 5:30pm.
Sayab plays the documentaries inside their dome, you will watch incredible stories about the Ice Age, Atlantic, Mars, Flight Adventures, Stars and other planets. On Fridays they have a special documentary about Mayan Universe at 7:00pm which you should not miss. They also organize festivals every few months where the kids can actually win bikes, tour tickets and of course learn about recycling or taking care of the water. Mayan history has of course a major importance for the Planetarium, they regularly organize conferences and bring special guests to explain more about the Mayan facts that make the Riviera Maya one of the most interesting lands on earth.
For the ones falling in love with another planets and considering the idea of a romantic date, this is the perfect option for you. Sayab organizes “Lunadas” or moon dates on the Planetarium observatory. This activity happens every once in a while when the weather permits it and it is announced on the Facebook page or the main website. In order to attend to this incredible event, is necessary to purchase the ticket the same morning and the price is no more than 5usd. It is a once in a lifetime experience as you get to see the stars and get the explanation of other important facts about the moon and other planets.
Besides having all age’s workshops and activities, Sayab also has two different programs; one for the conferences and another one for the workshops at the dome. The schedule is posted and being updated on the main website for everyone to see. The Planetarium is open from 10:00am until 6:00pm and from Tuesdays to Sundays (Mondays is closed). There is no cost for visiting the Planetarium but for every activity and conference there´s an entrance fee that is no more than 5usd per person.
Now you have a great alternative for your kids and also for yourself. If you haven´t visited Sayab Planetarium we highly recommend you to do it. Our only advice is to get there early, once you get there and see all the different activities there are, you won´t leave this place until you see it and touch it all!
